Comments: I think this website is great! I always love coming onto this site and seeing if the bbc are going to have any more tv changes! I'm still not too sure about the new bbc three idents? what do you think about them? Do you know if bbc 2 and 4 are going to have any new idents?

my favourite bbc one circles video has to be the helicopter one! what is yours?

thanks for such great and interesting stuff to look at!!

RW replies: So many questions...I have no information any future new idents; and as for BBC1, I can't say that any of the circle idents particularly stand out from the others for me

Comments: Have seen the BBC HD advert involving fiaona in antique roadshow saving a vase. Love the sting at the begining! Have you seen special May idents for BBC 2- they are a tree with two cut in on different backgrounds! Also love new bbc news revamp.

Comments: Enjoying your continued work on the website, thanks muchly.

I've an interesting observation regarding the new BBC News countdown. There is a 90 second version of the music on composer David Lowe's website, which I thought was just an extended mix at first. Watching the News channel last night, the countdown actually came in at around 70 seconds! The weirdest thing was that there was no clock in the corner at this point, but they interuppted it after a few seconds with the end of a World News broadcast. It then came in at 25, with the clock in place.

I figure it was a mistake, but longer countdowns have been more frequent recently. What do you reckon?

RW replies: There are apparently both 60 second and 90 second versions of the new countdown - however the latter is only used in the lead up to the Ten O'Clock News

Comments: I agree with you on the 1988-93 Nine O'Clock News set about the Newsroom backdrop being distracting.
I like the new BBC News set both on BBC1 and the BBC News Channel,it's very good and clear.I also the New look to Points West and the New theme tune,it's brilliant and the Bristol habour back drop is also brilliant.Don't like the Midlands Today set or Newsroom backdrop either because it's just like the 1988 Nine O'clock News, distracting and irracting.Points West is 100 times better.

Comments: I have to say that I'm not impressed with the BBC News revamp. It's just awful. I agree that the opening titles are rather similar to the one in 1999. Also I think the whole idea of renaming the programmes like the BBC News at One was a bad idea... I mean what was wrong with the good old, 'One O'clock News'? BBC News at Ten just sounds worse. I know everything is about showing a strong brand these days but it would be nice if there was just some originality to each programme

Comments: That little snippet on the BBC news website reminds me of a coca-cola can. Red yellow grey curved stripes.
But I bet the beeps and spinning globe are their to stay.
BBC News channel sounds horrid too and sounds commercial-tv like.

Comments: My favourite idents ever have got to be the bbc one balloon. I am to young to remember it though as I am only 11. (I vaugely remember shouting out 'hot air balloon' after watching the teletubbies at nursey.) I also like the heart idents itv did in the late 90's.

BBC switch has a DOG in place during programs, I saw it this morning on 2. And the five US DOG is really annoying as it is massive and you can't avoid looking at it every now and again. Do you agree?

S4/c has taken bbc 4's footsteps and has made idents which react to the announcers voice.

Do you have footage of the first ever bbc balloon ident? And are you going to upload the rhythm and movement montage - I do hate them though, but I quite like capoeria and tap dogs.
Thats all
Joseph (sorry for the long winded message)

P.S what are your fav idents? I quite like the 4 ones they are very clever)

RW replies: 1) I find all DOGs distracting. 2) No - I didn't see or record a BBC1 balloon ident until the fifth showing (12.12pm on 4/10/97). 3) I tried encoding the dancers farewell montage but I had too much hassle with it and had to give up. 4) Probably the BBC1 mirror globe

Comments: Looking on wikipedia recently, I typed in bbc one circle idents - apparently a special st davids day ident for bbc wales was produced. Is this true? (it's a bundle of daffodils, the music is moon)

P.s do you think the bbc will produce a special ident for the olympic games?

RW replies: 1) Yes. 2) Maybe

Comments: Great web site, looking around at the Radio Times brought back memories of some great tv shows. Especially also like looking at Christmas tv stuff.
Was tv better viewing then then or is it just me getting older and having a Victor Meldrew moment?
Keep up the good work DING DING

Comments: Excellent site. Well done. I worked in BBC Transmission from 1979-1995, and had 16 great years of being involved with 'Auntie Beeb.' The Radio Times covers are great, and one of the few perks of the job was that employees (in those days) received a complementary copy each week. Oh, how I miss them now....Keep up the good work, and remember, nostalgia is a thing of the past! (But as you grow older, how you enjoy it!)

Comments: Why don't you upload the special ident for Life in Cold Blood. It's magical forest intercepted by a chameleon who eats a fairy. There's also a sting where a lizard gets his tongue stuck on the 'o' in one! You can view them at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/tvradio/programmes/lifeincoldblood/extras.shtml
p.s love the new format!

Comments: This week and last I've noticed that the one o'clock news is being presented in the News 24 studio. How come?

RW replies: It's part of a rather confusing game of musical studios that will ultimately see News 24 move into the BBC1 news studio

Comments: Could you please upload some of the new bbc one ident stings! They are really good. They all have something to do with the funfair ident(only seen on saturday nights). So far I have seen:
-A Godzilla type thing on the top of a tower doing an impressio of king-kong
-The lady on the dance hall sign dancing with neon man
- and a spaceship and a knight on horseback fighting each other
P.S how come there are no videos of bbc 3 and 4 idents?

RW replies: Too many idents and too little time (and webspace)!

RW replies: After nearly a year it is indeed about time we had some new BBC2 idents

Comments: Have you seen the 'new' bbc one ident? It's the same as the penguin christmas '07 ident but with the christmas tree chopped out and a new background music. I saw it on Sunday evening. By the way love th site!

RW replies: Seen it now!

Comments: I was looking at the BBC Video section and watched the BBC Video ident from the 1980s, the colourful one. I watched it and remembered that I used to be scared of that bit at the end of CBBC video, probably because of the noises.

Comments: I was born in 47 and had a TV from the coronation so the the 1950s radio Times dredge the memory back to Muffin the Mule and Mr Turnip and of course Mr Pastry.
How dull it all looks now with dreary sundays and testcards and the welcome for cliff at 6. The other thing you remember are the breakdowns with father peering at valves and then a trip into Manchester to get the replacement unless experience had taught him to buy two!! A fascinating piece of social history.
