Comments: As a bit of a Eurovision "saddy" I love your site! I can remember back to 1959 with Pearl and Teddy and remember the elation when Sandie won in 67.
My favourite Euro song was "Si" which was runner up to ABBA in 74. Her 64 winner "Non ho l'eta" was also brilliant. Also love France Gall in 65 and, of our own entries, Kathy Kirby in 65, Daz from 06 and even Scooch is catchy. This years winner is abysmal and will be forgotten instantly.Whatever happened to film of Matt Monro doing his song? He is probably my own favourite male singer ever.

RW replies: There is no complete recording known to exist of the 1964 contest, in which Matt Munro represented the UK

Comments: Excellent pictures of The Eurovision Song Contest 2007. I didnt hold much hope for the UK entry anyway. I doubt that the UK will ever win Eurovision Song Contest again because of the the eastern European block voting. Still, it's all about getting together and having a laugh really.
p.s Great site

RW replies: My thoughts exactly (including the bit about the great site)

Comments: i am outraged by the results of last nights pole! the hole show is about a good song winning and not voting for your own country! which i see as its easy to vote for your own when the mojority of the uk is full of eastern europeans i said to my mother last night that this would happen im not saying england should have won cos there were useless there where only few groups that where good  Hungry/Finland/Sweden and others not bad but the worst of the lot coming second proves theres something not rite

Comments: I think Life on mars was a great series. Especially te second series as they used the 1970's idents. There is a new series (Not starring John Sim) and is set in 1981. I hope they use the 1980's idents

Comments: Great site once again. I just noticed another two mistakes. On the BBC One Balloon 1997-2002 page. On the ident where it says "English 10" I hovered over the image it says "Oct 1997-date" it has obviously been discontinued now and secondly on the BBC Two 1991-1997 and 1997-2001 pages. On the garden ident according to TV Ark it was introduced late 1991 as opposed to Jan 1994. Anyway great site once again I will visit regular

RW replies: First error corrected; however I'm not convinced by TV Ark's assertion that 'Garden' was introduced in 1991 - I didn't see it for the first time until 31st January 1994!

Comments: Excellent site and a usefull resource.

Did you know that "The acronym ''Tardis'' first appeared in print in the Christmas 1963 Radio Times" according to Patrick Mulkern (sub-editor, Radio Times).

So if you still have that issue, it'll be worth a fortune to Dr. Who fans one day!

Comments: Oh, and I found this other (no longer maintained) site about BBC2 idents, and it features a few not pictured on your site, and one or two not even mentioned - including paper cut-out and crystal ball. You might be able to get in contact with the site's owner to put these images up on your own site. It also links to another ident site - but quite frankly, compared to yours, that other site sucks.

RW replies: If it's the one I think you're referring to, then this was the first television presentation website I discovered on the internet, and even though it has not been updated for several years, I think that the ident sites that have sprung up since all owe some debt to it

Comments: Just wondering, have you got high(er) quality videos of the idents on here, in any format? Because the ones on here almost definately have reduced resolutions and framerates, but I would love to stick them all on a DVD or something (call me sad, but I have a reason - most movie players tend to take a while to load the next video and result in either a loss of the first second of sound or a big pause between idents while it loads the next one, but putting it on a dvd will sort that out. I really don't want any more drug dealers trying to sell me viagra so just remove the nospam. and .noreallyidontwantspam to get my real email. So yeah, if you do have better quality videos of the idents, could you email them to me in a big zip/rar/7z/tar.bz/whatever?

RW replies: Sorry, but I really don't have the time nor the technical capability to recapture and re-encode all the video clips in this way

Comments: Great site. Has loads of BBC idents. I noticed on the BBC Two 2007-present idents it still says "BBC2's new ident package launches 18th February!" as opposed to the description of the ident package. Anyway great site.

Comments: I arrived at the site when I embarked a search for an Archive of TV listings. So far I haven't been able to find any on the Internet, but I have found this site excellent for an overview with many welcome diversions.

I remember getting home from School to watch a Kids programme about a bunch of kids in a neolithic tomb or Long Barrow. Perhaps they discovered it, but there was a dastardly plot with 'Adults' and they were entombed and somehow escaped and all was well. I look back at what I regard as a very atmospheric spectacle and would like to find out more about this drama. I was hoping that by trawling through lists for 1969/1970/1972 would reveal all. I am certain that this was shown on the BBC.

RW replies: I'm afraid I can't identify this programme, however the most comphrensive listings archive on the internet is the BBC Programme Catalogue, which has almost complete listings from July 1976 onwards

Comments: haha I stayed up to see the montage and the last ident to be shown was fire. Then a quite poor and rather quick montage with just one theme of music playing over it before the CEEFAX page. The announcer said, "Well thats all for tonight on BBC TWO and were also saying goodbye to the current family of 2's that we use to introduce our programmes, theres a new look from 10 tomorrow morning, I'll say no more, don't want to spoil the suprise, so if this is your thing heres a small tribute to the outgoing 2s for which my collegue Richard desserves credit, I'll speak to you soon, goodnight."

Comments: what was the last 'yellow' bbc2 ident to be shown overnight between the 17th and the 18th february 2007

RW replies: Despite the montage at 3.30am, the personality 2 apparently lived on a little longer, and 'Formation' was shown just ten minutes before your guestbook entry

Comments: By the time you get this then it might not matter but I was wondering if BBC TWO would be doing a montage of their idents at the end of the night, but then again BBC TWO is closing at 3.30 AM tonight / Sunday morning and so there might not be much point in showing it as many won't be up at that time. Also will the idents be unveiled at 7.00 AM or any other time as I think in 1991 they were unveiled at 2.00 PM

RW replies: Couldn't be bothered staying up till 3.30am, but apparently there was a farewell montage. I expect the first new ident to be unveiled at 10.00am

Comments: This site is amazing, I didn't even know it existed until last month. The detail and content on this site is unbelievable.

Yes I can't wait to see the new BBC2 idents either. I think they are going to be much better, and far more like the 1991-2001 idents. On youtube I have created a few spoof idents for the old idents. You can have a look if you like, just search for cjb545 on the site and all of them come up.

Comments: They should have released the bbc2 idents on 17th feb instead of the 18th feb (because the 17th is my 16th birthday)

RW replies: I reckon they should have launched them on the 16th - because that's the Big 2's own 16th birthday!

Comments: Hey Robert, do you have high expectations for BBC Two's new idents? Do you think they will match up to ones used in the 1990s? Personally, I'm hoping for a haunting, eerie soundtrack for these idents. What about you?

RW replies: From the pictures they do look more like the old 90s idents, and certainly a vast improvement on the monotonous yellow ones - but what they'll be like in action remains to be seen!

Comments: Am I on the right site to make some good positive comments about Southern Counties Radio as it is now?  I love it.  Where do I find the web cam, I would like to know what my friends look like.  Ta ever so, Annie

RW replies: You could have a look at Southern Counties's own messageboard, but be warned, the locals on there can be rather nasty and are liable to bite your head off if you attempt to post a positive comment about SCR! The station's webcams are available on the same site

Comments: Wow, can't wait to see the new idents, wonder if they will launch with a clock this time as I imagine a lot of people complained when it wasn't created with the new look in 2001. Hope there is, BBC TWO could have done an awful lot with a clock from the current look (2001-2007).

RW replies: I really don't think we're going to see a clock again, I'm afraid

Comments: Ive always been an ident fan & i have been thinking what bbc2 will look like in 2007. I hope it's something simular to the ones they had in the 1990's! (They were proper idents!)

Comments: Hello I like your website. Looking at the Channel 4 page do you remember any idents from them in the early-mid 90s where live action 4s pop out of the ground? The reason why is because I remember them quite well but TV-Ark or any other pres sites don't have them.

Anyway, it's nice to know that you don't like places in Kent/Surrey/Essex succumbing to BBC LDN and/or receiving irrelevant news because I once lived in a small village near Sevenoaks back then and the news service was all London, London, London. I once discussed this on TV Forum so you remember or not.

Comments:Hey Robert,
I don't know if it is old, or if you have seen it before, but I saw a very good trailer for BBC Four. It was about 5 O'clock sunday morning, on BBC 1 or 2, and there was the usual "Battenburg" menu, then the BBC Four box fell of, and into a glass of water, and the box started fizzing, like an Alka Skeltzer, the logo turned round, to reveal the trailers on the back of it, then showed the trailers n full screen, then at the end it showed the Box fizzing in the water again, and said something like "Great tv from bbc four." have you seen it before? Sorry that it was such a sketchy description, but I was half asleep at the time.

RW replies: Yes, it's a new trail for BBC4's New Year season

RW replies: No need, the BBC will be 'fixing' them later this year

Comments: I am just thinking, in 1991 (when the BBC logo was slanted) they had the same logo on BBC2. In 1997 when they straightend the boxes they also had the same logo only a "TWO" added to it for BBC2. When the dancers came along BBC1 got a red box to the left and BBC2 a purple one to the right. Maybe the new idents will reflect the circle theme spelling out "BBC two". I have a funny feeling that the "2" will be stuck in real situations e.g. surfing like the BBC ONE ident :D

RW replies: My guess is that BBC2 will have its own distinct logo rather than following BBC1's new style; however on your last point, if the rumours are correct you may not be too far from the truth...

Name: Kris

Comments: Been looking at the idents section, mainly BBC2. Very detailed and nostalgic, well done!

However, I have something to say on the subject of the proposed new idents for BBC2. Not too long ago, probably about a week, I was watching BBC2 when a programme menu came up, with a purple background rather than the usual yellow. I've never seen this before, so could this be hinting at BBC2's imminent 'new look'?

RW replies: Very unlikely, I'd expect a new presentation package to be launched all in one go, not in drips and drabs
