Name: Sad TV Pres Fan :)
From: Yorkshire
Comments: Have you noticed that the beta version of the new BBC homepage (
http://www.bbc.co.uk/home/beta/) contains a Flash version of a 1970s era BBC TV clock with the polo mint centre?

Great to see another icon return to the BBC :)

RW replies: Maybe one day we'll get the globe back...

Name: Jerry
From: Wakefield - Yorkshire
Comments: What a fantastic site, and I've only just stumbled across it.  I asked the Radio Times team years ago to try and track down a particular year when a certain RT cover appeared on a Christmas edition, and they drew a blank.  However, there it is on your site for 1969!  Brilliant you've broght back happy memories as well.

Name: Dean Phillips
From: Newcastle upon Tyne
Comments: I haven't seen much of the Six O'clock News recently but when seeing it three times this week I noticed that only George Alagiah was presenting the programme. I wonder if the BBC has decided to scrap dual presenting; perhaps it could be something to do with Natasha Kaplinsky's move to Five news but this hasn't effected much before. I prefer dual presentation, especially for something like the Six O'clock News

RW replies: The Six O'Clock News has indeed reverted to single-headed presentation - after all, do we really need two people to read us the news?

Monday December 10 2007 - 20:23
Name: Gareth
From: South Wales
Comments: Once again great site. I have been looking at the BBC Christmas section and there are a great selection of idents on there. I noticed you haven't put BBC One and BBC Two for this year even though they haven't launched yet, you usually put what you think is happening this year with the idents.

RW replies: This site's visitors are clearly more on the ball than I am...

He loves the BBC balloon. This is probably his favourite website, and he has a few!

We went to Scotland this year and went to castle featured. It was a wonderful place and Alex loved it.

Just thought I'd share this with you! Alex's Dad xx

Name: Steve
Where are you from?: Aberdeen
Comments: Hi, As I was looking at the 10th anniversary of the current BBC logo and the BBC1 baloon. I see that the first glimpse of the logo first appeared in the Radio Times in July that year it was introduced. And I have the issue dated 4-10 October with the new BBC1 and 2 logos on the listing pages. It looks strange now as the logos shown look like the design of their successors.

Comments: Wow 2007 eurovision song contest was great. (my comments are a bit late.. but anyways) Good luck to UK next year.. and please pick a song that will make the audience (i dont know the exact words) ''speechless'' when the audience are watching, deep inside they wanna dance or sing along with it and makes your heart ''beat''. like most of the winners.

WE LOVE EUROVISION

Sunday August 26 2007 - 02:36
Name: Dean
Where are you from?: Newcastle upon Tyne
Comments: I hate the new BBC Radio 2 logo copared to the previous one. When seeing the new BBC Radio 1 logo I hardly noticed any difference apart from the the word radio being underneath the BBC logo and the number one made to look more like a one. Oh why change? Unless it is really hideous like those Rhythm and movement idents on BBC ONE of course.

RW replies: Why change? Graphic designers and branding companies trying to justify their existence, I suppose. BBC Radio logos past and present can be seen here

Name: Thomas Peter Blyth
Where are you from?: Minneapolis MN. USA
Comments: My Grandfather Theodore Ditcham was the first radio voice from the Marconi Works in Writtle, Essex. He told that the first broadcasts were so short of content that he would read aloud from the railway time tables. "The Great Western Railway starts at Paddington Station..."

Friday August 3 2007 - 19:36
Name: Ian Officer
Where are you from?: Southampton
Comments: I listened to the top forty/twenty countdown in the early middle 70's on a Sunday evening. The DJ was Tom Browne. Were the programmes recorded and do you know if they are available to listen too? Purely nostalgia !!

RW replies: If the BBC Programme Catalogue is anything to go by, the Radio 1 chart shows, along with most music radio output, do not reside in the BBC archive, but there are no doubt numerous fan recordings out there

Comments: Great website you got here! My favourite section is the BBC idents- that place is a goldmine! I think your ITV idents section should be expanded- but, other than that, keep up the good work!

RW replies: I'm afraid that a lack of available material means that I've no current plans to expand the ITV idents section

Comments: This is an excellent site for those on a real nostalgia trip. It's just so great to click on those Top 40 links especially and hear the voices of all those DJs right down the years, and all the Radio Times covers and the TV schedules.  It makes you realise how times are constantly changing and re-inventing themselves later.  Well done!!

Comments: LOL! I loved watching the Comic Relief 2007 ident! Great to hear the continuity announcers getting in the spirit of that, wonder if they are great in real life. It's a great thing to see that the BBC is so passionate about what they do, and the continuity annoucers do a great job, keeping us informed between programmes, well done Duncan and Becky!
