The idents are based around optical illusions, where what appears at first to be a single everyday image is in fact made up of four separate frames.

BBC4 was in its early days often criticised for being elitist and snooty. In answer to this, the channel has managed to broaden its appeal, whilst still appearing completely distinctive from any other channels. One of the ways it has achieved this is by running various themed seasons, often based around nostalgia. These have included Summer in the Sixties, TV on Trial and Pop - What Is It Good For?
Special idents are sometimes used in conjunction with these seasons, such as this one which was used for programmes linking into the Science Fiction Britannia season in November 2006. 2002-05 2005-date |
